Weekend update....

This weekend was a very busy one as usual.  The painting is coming slowly but surely.  We were able to use the tile that was left over for the hall bathroom.  Now grout, a new toilet, and trim paint and the bathroom will be another room off of that very long list we have.

On a side note we met the designer/creater/builder of our house this weekend.  All this time we thought that the family we bought from built this house, but they did not.  The actually bought it from our next door neighbor.  I think/hope they liked what were were doing with the house.  It really amazed me to learn that everything in the house was original.  The family that bought it NEVER did anything to the house other than new appliances in the kitchen.

Have I mentioned I HATE painting...J is much better at it

Thanks C for your help!

All windows need to be painted....AHHH

Wedding Front

Well I haven't spoke a whole lot about the wedding on here.

Quite frankly I am tired of talking about the house and remodel....it's to the point of stressing me out.  I feel one minute that we are going to be able to get this done before May and then something happens and I am back to freaking out.  If you don't know me well enough by now you will realize that I am a worrier.....Like I am known to worry if there is nothing for me to worry about.

Anyways back to the wedding....that is stress within itself.

Invites---Being printed as we speak
Bridal Portiats- Scheduled
Dress- Being altered
Flowers--- Almost done
Decor---Almost done
Preacher--Check
Marriage License---not yet

The month of March I do believe is going to fly by.  Between wedding showers, family birthdays, and house remodel.....ahhhhhhh!!!!

As far as the marriage part....no worries...no stress...lets face it I have been waiting for this almost 10 years!  :)  I will stop before getting all sappy but J and I have been ready for a long time.....

Tiny Information

Okay so I have been doing a little research since my last posting.  We painted our cabinets and love them but noticed we were getting a few knicks.  I have read that you need to add a coat of Polycrlic to any stain wood or oil paint finish.  It is supposed to act like a finish coat that will protect from these knicks that we have been getting.  Wish I had of seen this oh say 3 weeks ago.

Will let you know how this works....I am hoping this does not mean I am going to have to take the doors off again.

On side note....we are still painting at the house.  Finally finish selecting colors last night and will be purchasing them tonight so that we can paint away another weekend.  HURRAY....(insert sarcasm)

Update...

Well....there is not a whole lot to update you on.  We are trying to get the bedrooms painted and ready for carpet install.  (which is a another story).  All the doors and trim for the most part have been primed and ready for their "white dove" color.

We did get lucky and found our first piece of furniture this weekend.  We got a television cabinet, well kinda we have to find a truck to get it home but we purchased it.  EXCITING....

I know some have asked....

The kitchen cabinets were really not that hard to do.  Just time consuming when you do not have full days to devote to them.  Here are the steps we took:

1. Degrease the cabinets  (I used grease lighting)
2. Wipe with clean water rag
3. Dry completely (when working with oil based paint you must let everything dry)
4. Kiltz (odorless) to prime (Spend the 5 bucks to get odorless.....save you in headaches)
5. Coat of Oil paint (we used Olympic satin oil paint)
6. Repeat oil paint again
7. Let the paint cure
8. Can be attached back and hardware on

The color we used was White dove ( I took a paint sample of Benjamin Moore White Dove to Lowe's and they matched it)

The color for the Kitchen and Laundry room was Guilford Green (again Benjamin Moore sample)

Until next time....

Who Knew....

I am not sure J and I really knew how great this kitchen was going to turn out.  I mean being a designer I can envision the final product, but this kitchen has exceeded my expectations.  I am still suffering from this cold but thankfully J and my dad worked their tails off this weekend so that we could finally say we are done with the kitchen and laundry room (except for the finishing touches of base/crown molding/lighting).  I will let the photos do all of the talking.....

Sickness and No sleep

Well the post tittle is sort of true.  I have been fighting the stomach thing/head cold that is floating around and J has not been sleeping.

He is bound and determined to get this kitchen done.  This is one of the things I truly love/hate about him.  If he sets his mind to it he WILL get it done, but at what cost?!?!  This week he has had very little sleep....but as always he has finished the floor and will be grouting tonight.  He has done an amazing job!!!

We are hoping that once the kitchen is done that the rest of the house will move right along as well.  We are still doing good on time but everything will soon come to a slow down as I feel the wedding fast approaching.  I still am just praying we can get it close enough to being done that we can move in before the wedding...I mean May 4th will be fine! :)

See his amazing work below!  Thanks J for all of your hard work...

FINALLY FRIDAY!!

I know I have not posted since last weekend.  We have had a few breaks this week, due to birthdays!!! To my wonderful mother Happy Birthday! and Grandmother...Happy Birthday to you as well.  and thank you for not just what you do but allowing us to have a break to celebrate your day! :)  hehe

The kitchen....is almost done.  Cabinets are painted and ready, doors are ready to be hung back up.  I cleaned yesterday and I am so excited to be able to use the sink again, since it has been covered pretty much the day we bought the house.   Small things excite me.  We hope to prime and paint the living room this weekend and coming week.

On a side note, the mailbox that has been made fun of all week.  Someone thinks it looks like a child's toy.  I say WHATEVER it allows me to get the mail without getting ran over by the busy traffic we have in front of the house (it has a back door access).  AND the mail lady was very excited!  She even left a nice little sticky note in the mailbox thanking us for upgrading to a new (correct height) mailbox.

I think we are putting the neighbor's mailboxes to shame! :)
