Is anyone out there!?!?

Hello if anyone is still checking this thing.....

All has been quite on the home front.  Summer is here can you tell?  It is very hard to convience J or myself to stay home and paint when we can be playing at the lake.

So we have decieded that 2 nights out of the week we will began doing all the small things that need to be done.  Painting windows and molding.  We only have 3 more windows to be painted.  Then I have to figure out what color I want to paint the doors.  Should be interesting.

I have however been on the hunt for items for the house to give it a "home" feel.  The icing on the cake or jewlery for the house...

I have found a few places around here with items that were major steals.  One store I was introduced to was the Christmas Tree Shop in Greensboro.  If you are thinking what I was before walking in was, who needs Christmas stuff all year round?! NO this store is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.  It has everything you can think of for CHEAP!  As my friend put it, "Big Lots on steriods..."

Another store is Treasures Decor, they have great consignment furniture.  I am very picky and germ crazy, but this stuff is clean and doesn't have the  odors of its previous owners.  We lucked up on a name brand television cabinet there for less than we could buy the cheap one at Target.

However, yesterday I hit the motherload of stuff.  I went to the Red collection in Greensboro.  It was like the consignment angels were singing.  I found lamp shades for cheap to dress up our dining room light and a mirror for 1/4 of the price of the one I have been dreaming about at Target.  I know J is glad I do not own a SUV because I am limited on how much I can fit in my car or I probably would have brought home more than I did yesterday.

I will post pictures soon of these finds.

I hope everyone reading has a great holiday weekend/week and stay safe!

Until next time.

The woes of technology

Okay I know everyone that looks at the blog does not come here to see text, they come to see pictures.  Well unfortunately J has my computer this week and my computer that I am using this morning does not have the card slot for my memory stick....

So long story short...I can't download my pictures.  I know in the world of technology that we live it I should have a back up but I  don't.

So I will just have to tell you what we (I) have been doing.  Thanks to my great friend Clo, everything in the house has been primed, but 5 windows.  I plan on trying to paint the living room and hall this week.  My dad came over last night and installed some lights.....

We might actually get there before the wedding....I am still holding my breathe!

Weekend update

Well...we didn't get an enormous amount of work done this weekend.  We did however get an enormous amount of stuff for the house this weekend.  We had our last shower.  And for those that gave us gift cards...well they are gone (pretty much).

The plan for this week is to paint..paint...and paint some more.  We are getting toward the final lap.  It won't all be done by the wedding but it will be livable by then.  We are getting really excited about moving and the wedding.

*** hopefully I will have pictures of almost if not all of the painting done by this time next week!!****

STAY TUNED!

Updates!

Okay...

Now that I am not in-front of a computer all day everyday, I am finding it very hard to update this blog.  Plus I just have to plan a wedding, look for a job, find insurance, and GET THIS HOUSE DONE!  AHHH...(sorry I have just been very overwhelmed :\)

Okay so to the house.....

Thanks Cloie for the help painting, not sure I would of finished the bedrooms without your help.

So the Carpet FINALLY came today.  They were done in about 2.5 hours.  AMAZING....it is now starting to look like a home again.  I finally got the cabinets lined and stuff put away from the first bridal shower, just in time for the next one this weekend.  Thanks to all of my amazing friends and family, J and I are truly blessed.

Here are a few photos for your viewing pleasures...

Get This....

Of course....the carpet guy and Lowe's had their schedule crossed.  The carpet has been delayed a week.  Hopefully Monday we will have carpet.

However, I  must tell you of the mishap we had the night before what we believed to be carpet install.  We decided to check a spot in the floor that we had been assured it was repaired.  WELLL...we all know that was not the case.  There was major damage!  Thanks to my dad and J working very hard it was repaired properly and safe now.

I will post pictures of that mishap as soon as I am able to upload them.

I was able to use the dishwasher this week, thanks for all the fiesta I had a full load to try it out on.

I promise to have pictures as soon as all of the painting is done!

Keep checking!!!

what a crazy week....

Well I have a very quick update....

As most of you reading know j and I received very devastating news Monday.  We all know the economy has not rebounded and well I unfortunately work in a line of business where a layoff can happen at any moment.  It happened....I am currently out of work.  Which means for this blog the renovations may be happening at a slower rate, which will be fine.

On a lighter note positive things are happening in my life...it appears as quick as one door closed others maybe be opening just as fast.  We will see....it is all in God's hands and I am at peace with that.

However, I have been able to use this time off to my advantage.  hall bath is almost done...painting is almost done...I will post pictures as soon as I can get around to uploading them.

until next time....

Weekend update....

This weekend was a very busy one as usual.  The painting is coming slowly but surely.  We were able to use the tile that was left over for the hall bathroom.  Now grout, a new toilet, and trim paint and the bathroom will be another room off of that very long list we have.

On a side note we met the designer/creater/builder of our house this weekend.  All this time we thought that the family we bought from built this house, but they did not.  The actually bought it from our next door neighbor.  I think/hope they liked what were were doing with the house.  It really amazed me to learn that everything in the house was original.  The family that bought it NEVER did anything to the house other than new appliances in the kitchen.

Have I mentioned I HATE painting...J is much better at it

Thanks C for your help!

All windows need to be painted....AHHH

Lovely

Yes that is a blue/gray color

Wedding Front

Well I haven't spoke a whole lot about the wedding on here.

Quite frankly I am tired of talking about the house and remodel....it's to the point of stressing me out.  I feel one minute that we are going to be able to get this done before May and then something happens and I am back to freaking out.  If you don't know me well enough by now you will realize that I am a worrier.....Like I am known to worry if there is nothing for me to worry about.

Anyways back to the wedding....that is stress within itself.

Invites---Being printed as we speak
Bridal Portiats- Scheduled
Dress- Being altered
Flowers--- Almost done
Decor---Almost done
Preacher--Check
Marriage License---not yet

The month of March I do believe is going to fly by.  Between wedding showers, family birthdays, and house remodel.....ahhhhhhh!!!!

As far as the marriage part....no worries...no stress...lets face it I have been waiting for this almost 10 years!  :)  I will stop before getting all sappy but J and I have been ready for a long time.....

Tiny Information

Okay so I have been doing a little research since my last posting.  We painted our cabinets and love them but noticed we were getting a few knicks.  I have read that you need to add a coat of Polycrlic to any stain wood or oil paint finish.  It is supposed to act like a finish coat that will protect from these knicks that we have been getting.  Wish I had of seen this oh say 3 weeks ago.

Will let you know how this works....I am hoping this does not mean I am going to have to take the doors off again.

On side note....we are still painting at the house.  Finally finish selecting colors last night and will be purchasing them tonight so that we can paint away another weekend.  HURRAY....(insert sarcasm)

Update...

Well....there is not a whole lot to update you on.  We are trying to get the bedrooms painted and ready for carpet install.  (which is a another story).  All the doors and trim for the most part have been primed and ready for their "white dove" color.

We did get lucky and found our first piece of furniture this weekend.  We got a television cabinet, well kinda we have to find a truck to get it home but we purchased it.  EXCITING....

I know some have asked....

The kitchen cabinets were really not that hard to do.  Just time consuming when you do not have full days to devote to them.  Here are the steps we took:

1. Degrease the cabinets  (I used grease lighting)
2. Wipe with clean water rag
3. Dry completely (when working with oil based paint you must let everything dry)
4. Kiltz (odorless) to prime (Spend the 5 bucks to get odorless.....save you in headaches)
5. Coat of Oil paint (we used Olympic satin oil paint)
6. Repeat oil paint again
7. Let the paint cure
8. Can be attached back and hardware on

The color we used was White dove ( I took a paint sample of Benjamin Moore White Dove to Lowe's and they matched it)

The color for the Kitchen and Laundry room was Guilford Green (again Benjamin Moore sample)

Until next time....

Who Knew....

I am not sure J and I really knew how great this kitchen was going to turn out.  I mean being a designer I can envision the final product, but this kitchen has exceeded my expectations.  I am still suffering from this cold but thankfully J and my dad worked their tails off this weekend so that we could finally say we are done with the kitchen and laundry room (except for the finishing touches of base/crown molding/lighting).  I will let the photos do all of the talking.....
